A really strong bow, but primitive and difficult to handle. You need open space to maneuver this bow.

Fatal mistake. A knot in one of the limbs. Not a very pretty hand crafted bow. Look at that knot and sapwood on the lower limb.

The thumbnail for this video is strange. The content of this video is great, and I like how it carefully depicts the process of making a Japanese bow. However, this thumbnail depicts the incorrect handling of a Japanese bow. I feel it is an insult to Kyudo, and I am not interested in it.

If his craft is centuries old, more than likely, their ancestors learned it from the Koreans. About 400 years ago, the japanese kidnapped 50,000-200,000 Korean doctors, architects, blacksmiths, farmers, pottery makers, ARTISANS, WOODWORKERS. The japanese then forced those Koreans to teach their skills to the japanese. To this day, the average japanese doesn’t know this shameful part of their history. If they do, they deny it, and don’t give credit where credits is due.

Little known fact: Almost ALL the pottery making skills of japan are actually from Korea when 400 years ago, the japanese kidnapped 50,000-200,000 Korean doctors, architects, farmers, blacksmiths, artisans, POTTERY MAKERS. The japanese then forced these Koreans to teach their skills to the japanese. Most japanese don’t even know this part shameful part of their history. And, if they know, they rarely give credit to the Koreans. Pretty scummy, if you think about it.

I have degrees in both painting and sculpture. I love vessels! However, I could never get used to the feeling of drying clay on my hands! I enjoy the process you go through from taking earth to clay to pottery. I used to be a furniture maker. Cutting down large trees, running them through a large mill, putting them in sawdust for a year to cure, table saw and lathe into furniture. So similar! subbed! Love the earth and using it, and we love artists!
